The Role of CBD Oil in Treating Heart Disease

Heart disease is #1 killer of most men and women today. The heart is the most vital organ in the human body and a simple attack can be catastrophic. The good news is that a good diet, regular exercise and certain medications can help reduce the risk.

CBD has been used to treat a variety of health conditions, and medical research has recently been conducted to see what role it can play in treating heart disease.

How is cannabis a medicine?

While there are still a few people left who are shocked that “marijuana” is now considered medicine instead of a drug used by degenerates,  research continues to confirm the health benefits of cannabis. The secret behind the plant’s medicinal ability to treat heart diseases are cannabinoids, a class of chemical compounds of which 113 have been isolated in the cannabis plant.

The most common type of cannabinoid is the phytocannabinoid tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), famous for its psychoactive, “elevating” effects. This compound is the one responsible for the “high” associated with cannabis. However, another phytocannabinoid, cannabidiol (CBD) has been shown to reduce inflammation, lower blood pressure and minimize arrhythmia, or irregular heartbeats.

How does CBD work for heart health?

While CBD doesn’t directly work with the heart and cardiovascular system, its anti-inflammatory effects can help reduce the risk of heart disease by binding with the body’s endocannabinoid receptors. Animals possess an endocannabinoid system that has receptors specifically for all types of cannabinoids, including the ones extracted from cannabis.

Recent research reveals that CBD can relax the arterial walls and prevent atherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries, which can lead to blood flow blockages to the heart. CBD has also be shown to reduce plaque buildup on the arterial walls up to 70 percent, thereby decreasing the risk of heart attack, stroke and death.
